Police said that at least two fires were purposefully set in the area of Palmer Street, the siteof the party known commonly as "Palmer Fest." Authorities estimated that as many as 8,000 peoplewere in attendance.

The first fire was set at about 10 p.m. in the middle of the street. Couches and trash cans wereamong the items thrown into the flames, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.
The fire was extinguished, but the crowd restarted it about half an hour later.
As police officers and firefighters made their way toward the fire, they were pelted with beercans and bottles thrown by partygoers. At least three police horses were injured when they werestruck by objects, police said.
One horse was hit in the head with a bottle, while another was hit with a full can of beer,causing its eye to swell shut, police said.
Officers in riot gear were eventually able to end the party and disperse crowds.
"It was just really scary," said Ohio University graduate student Latrisha Large. "I've neverseen anything like that before."
One Palmer Street resident, who asked not to be identified, claimed that police behavior addedto the situation.
"My friend was in the driveway trying to get away from the cops, and the cop told just told himto keep moving," the resident said. "They just clubbed him in the back of the head."
There were additional reports Sunday morning that a car was overturned in a church parking lot,and a dresser was set on fire near the corner of Congress Street and Woodward Avenue, policesaid.
According to police, more than a dozen partiers were arrested on disorderly conduct and alcoholcharges, McEntyre reported.
More charges could be filed.
