A man was killed Thursday morning when a twin-engine plane crashed near a runway at the UnionCounty Airport.
The crash happened shortly before 10:30 a.m.
A few minutes after taking off the plane's pilot radioed the tower and said he was having enginetrouble, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.

"As we turned around we saw the plane kind of duck up under the trees and then disappear behindthe trees," said Tom Bolin, an off-duty firefighter who saw the plane from a nearby golf course."The next thing we knew we saw a big plume of smoke."
Troopers said the pilot was trying to make an emergency landing when the plane crashed severalhundred feet short of the runway in a bean field, McEntyre reported.
Bolin said the plane was flying very low and its engine was sputtering as it approached theairport.
"We heard the engines kind of sputter," Bolin said. "The next thing you know the engines cutout."
The pilot, who was the only person on board the plane, was identified as Shannon Stage, 33, ofMarysville, McEntyre reported.
The plane was owned by Corporate Roof Management Systems.
Investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration were traveling to Marysville to determinewhat caused the crash.
