Just two days after a man died at Hocking Hills, state officials say there was another death on Monday.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said that one person died in a fall on Monday afternoon at Cedar Falls in Hocking Hills State Park.
Authorities said the 66-year-old man went off the trail and accidentally fell over the cliff, a drop of 81 feet.
That brings the total to three people who have died this year. Another was injured in a fall.
Authorities said they’ve been increasing enforcement by issuing more citations to people who go off the trails. “You don’t have to go off trail to enjoy the beauty that is here,” said Assistant Park Manager Paul Baker.
Baker said they are also working to increase and improve signage, as well as increasing patrols on the weekends.
Over the weekend, Pete Livingston died when he fell during a rock climbing exercise. Authorities said this death happened at Hocking Hills State Forest and was not a case of the victim going off the trail, as was the case in the other deaths.
A 19-year-old man from Columbus was killed earlier this year.
