The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a car crash out of Madison Township that killed 3 people and sent 1 to the hospital.

The wreck happened around 4:00 a.m. on Illinois Avenue north of State Route 430 in Mansfield.

"It's still kind of hard to believe, I just talked to Corrine a couple days ago,” Jacob Hogan said.

Hogan knew one of the passengers in the car. He says he’s still in shock and trying to make sense of what happened on a road in Madison Township.

Some cars sped by the aftermath of the wreck on Illinois Avenue. Glass is still on the ground and the tire marks look fresh. Hogan pulled over to look.

"I only knew Corrine in the vehicle, but you just really hurt for the families more than anything. They're the ones really hurting and need support right now,” Hogan said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 3 people died in the fiery crash that left damage behind. Investigators say the driver of the car, 21-year-old Steven Foley Jr., was heading south on Illinois Avenue. Police say the car went off of the right side of the road, before re-entering and traveling off of the left side of the road. The car hit several tries and then caught fire.

Foley and 2 other passengers did not survive. 20-year-old Zachary Lawson and Hogan’s friend, 24-year-old Corrine Coleman died in the crash.

"Just real fun spirited, you know didn't really care what people thought about her. She just did her thing and people respected her for it,” Hogan said.

Investigators suspect alcohol is involved. While Hogan says he’ll grieve with his community, he hopes the accident serves as a lesson too.

"You want it to end, you know and it's just upsetting. It makes you think about drinking and driving and how dangerous it really is,” Hogan said.

A fourth person in the car survived. 22-year-old Brandon Moore went to Mansfield Ohio Health Hospital with injuries. OSP says Moore was the only person wearing a seat belt.
