Tanger Outlet Mall Columbus, which is located in Delaware County, said thousands of job seekers are competing for about 900 positions.
At a job fair Friday, hundreds of job seekers met with potential employers and filled out countless job applications.
Brittany Ware, says she's just looking for a few hours a week.
"I just need a part time job because I have a car and I need to pay for that stuff,” Ware said.
The mall’s general manager, Carl Landis, says construction is on schedule for a grand opening in late June. Landis says there’s heavy competition for nearly 900 positions.
"We expect anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 people to show up today,” Landis said.
Retailers recruiting employees at the job fair say they’re hiring part-time associates, but say there are opportunities for people who are looking for a career in the retail industry.
"I know management teams grow every day. I know our store, a lot of stores around here, we're looking for management,” Tanner Avnet, a recruiter for a food franchise, said.
Aisha Gordoa is a mother of four who lives in Delaware and is hoping to land a job as an assistant manager.
She was filling out applications and getting interviewed on the spot at Friday’s job fair.
"I've had some interviews today. I've talked to a couple people. I think it's going to be good today,” Gordoa said.
Landis said even though Tanger Outlet Columbus is actually located in Delaware County and Delaware County will reap the financial benefits of the new retail giant, out of town shoppers can more easily associate the outlet mall with a major metropolitan city, like Columbus.
The grand opening is scheduled for June 24.
