SAN FRANCISCO — Officials recalled a wireless tree light controller Thursday due to overheating and fire hazard issues.
Walmart, Target and Cracker Barrel online and in-person stores sold these products nationwide from July through November of this year between $25 and $40. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says an estimated 44,600 units are being recalled.
Officials say Mr. Christmas “Wireless Decorative Tree Light Controllers” are covered by the recall. These items come with two parts: a lever or switch and a white receiver that plugs into an outlet and connects to tree lights.
The controller sold at Walmart and Cracker Barrel is shaped like a green, red and white peppermint candy with a candy cane lever, and displays the words "Christmas Light Controller." The recalled controller sold at Target is sold under Target's in-house Wondershop brand and is shaped like a square switch box with green, red and white balls. The Target version displays the words "Tree Lighting Switch."
Impacted units will have one of these codes on the receiver: 39611, 39612 or 39630.
There have been no reported injuries. There have been multiple reports of the wireless receiver overheating and one report of a fire.
Anyone with these items should immediately stop using them and return them to their place of purchase to receive a full refund.
