Barbie launches 2024 Career of the Year doll collection

Barbie's success in the film industry is only just beginning.

LOS ANGELES — "Barbie" dominated the box office last summer, and Barbie dolls off-screen are following in her footsteps: Next stop, studio boardroom. Or the red carpet. Or maybe behind the camera shooting the next big blockbuster!

"Women in Film" is Barbie's Career of the Year Collection theme for 2024, a nod to the billion-dollar movie and director Greta Gerwig's record-breaking achievements.

The 2024 lineup includes four new dolls: Studio Executive, Director, Cinematographer and Movie Star.

"With 250+ careers and counting, Barbie continues to inspire the limitless potential in every girl. Barbie aims to remind children they can be anything from princess to president, astronaut to zoologist," according to a press release.

Barbie's 2024 Career of the Year theme is "Women in Film," inspired by the hit movie's success.

The new dolls are dressed up for their respective careers: The studio executive sports a blazer, skirt and heels, with yellow sunglasses and a smartphone suited for a high-powered exec on the go; the director dons a denim jumpsuit — another nod to Gerwig, perhaps? — with a viewfinder, headset and script in hand. Cinematographer Barbie rocks a graphic tee and leopard print pants and comes with a clipboard. A glamorous movie star wears a sequin, floor-length gown, and of course she's an award winner.

The set of four sells for $49.99.

Barbie's 2023 Career of the Year theme was "Women in Sports."

"Barbie" was the highest-grossing movie of 2023, bringing in more than $1.38 billion worldwide to also become the highest grossing film in Warner Bros.' 100-year history. It is the highest grossing film ever from a female filmmaker at the domestic box office. The movie was nominated for nine Golden Globes and won two.
