7 injured following shooting incident on I-75 in Kentucky; person of interest sought

Police are seeking 32-year-old man in connection with the shooting incident that left seven injured and I-75 near London, Kentucky shut down for several hours.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky State Police are searching for a person of interest following an active shooter incident near Laurel County.

Both directions of I-75 about nine miles north of London, Kentucky were shut down for several hours following the shooting of multiple people Saturday evening.

London Mayor Randle Weddle shared with Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones that the shooting was not random, but two cars in some type of altercation led to four people being shot. Three others suffered minor injuries from car wrecks following the incident. All seven people were transported to the hospital. The conditions of those shot are not known.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is looking for 32-year-old Joseph Couch, a person of interest in the shooting.

He’s described as a white male, about 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighing about 154-pounds.

They consider him armed and dangerous.

Gov. Andy Beshear said via X that his office has been made aware of the situation and will provide more details as they become available.

"I am receiving initial reports from the Kentucky State Police and our Office of Homeland Security — together we are actively monitoring the situation and offering support in any way possible. Please pray for everyone involved."

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office announced that I-75 opened to traffic just before 9:30 p.m.
