Worthington names new police chief

The city of Worthington has announced Robert Ware as the new Chief of the Worthington Division of Police.

Chief Ware comes to Worthington from Portsmouth where he served as police chief for eight years.

“I am very excited to join the Worthington leadership team,” said Chief Ware. “I look forward to fostering the strong and trusted community relationships that have been built by an outstanding cadre of dedicated and caring employees of the Worthington Division of Police. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the officers and staff in continuous personal and professional development as we continue to provide the highest level of service to the Worthington community.”

Chief Ware comes to Worthington with 25 years of experience in the criminal justice field. He has been with the Portsmouth Police Department since 1995.

He served in the U.S. Navy in active duty from 1987 to 1995 and continues to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

“The position of Police Chief is very important to our organization and the Worthington community,” said City Manager Matt Greeson. “Chief Ware is a strong proponent of community policing and is dedicated to working with officers, residents and businesses to assure the safety of our community. He is a highly respected law enforcement professional, with the right skills to lead the Worthington Division of Police into the future.”

Chief Ware’s appointment is effective December 26.
