The shooting happened at Rodeway Inn, located off U.S. Route 23. early Saturday morning.

PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A woman was fatally shot by law enforcement in Pickaway County over the weekend after pointing a handgun at officers, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said deputies, Circleville police officers and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers went to the Rodeway Inn on U.S. Route 23 for a report of a woman calling 911 stating she was suicidal around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 25.

Arriving officers found the woman, 52-year-old Pamela Croston, knocking on the window of her hotel room with a handgun pointed at her head.

Officers pleaded for Croston to put down the gun, but she did not.

Croston walked out of the hotel room with the gun still pointed at her head. The sheriff's office said she then pointed the gun at a deputy. Two deputies fired their weapons, striking Croston.

Croston was taken to Grant Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
