Police: 1 taken into custody after bringing knife into Whetstone HS, causing lockdown

A spokesperson from Columbus City Schools said the student, who is not enrolled at Whetstone High School, caused a disturbance in the hallway.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Whetstone High School in Clintonville was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a female student created a disruption in the hallway and was found with a knife, according to a Columbus City Schools spokesperson.

The student, who the district says is not enrolled at Whetstone, reportedly entered the building and created a disruption in the hallway. The school was then placed on a Level III lockdown sometime before 11:20 a.m., meaning movement was restricted for students and staff members.

Safety and security specialists and a building administrator worked to de-escalate the situation until officers with the Columbus Division of Police arrived at 11:21 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, the student no longer had possession of the weapon and was detained by school staff, according to police. Officers then took her into custody.

No one was injured and the lockdown was lifted at 1:05 p.m. after the officers gave an all-clear.

The incident remains under investigation.
