Westerville South student captivates crowd at protest

About 200 people attended the rally organized by Community Threads Inc.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio-- It was beginning to look a lot like many peaceful protests we've seen over the last two weeks.

Hundreds of people chanting for an end to racism, an end to unarmed black men dying at the hands of police and demands to change the way police patrol black comminutes.

But something special was about to happen on Sunday when a young lady from Westerville South grabbed the megaphone when the march stopped at Westerville City Hall.

No one in the crowd knew what was about to come out of Isa Sanchez's mouth.

"Living life while black you know nothing of the sort. We have been conditioned to live in fear but I don't want to see another mother shed one more tear," she said.

For nearly 2 minutes she spoke without stopping for a breath.

"I can't go one block without seeing a 'blue lives matter' flag or our blue lives use black men as punching bags," she told the crowd.

She spoke without stopping for a breath.

Her frustration and fear mesmerized the crowd.

"We see these headlines and it hurts us to our core," she said.

The Westerville-South Junior captivated the audience with her rhymes, and when she stopped, the crowd stood and cheered.

For people who think the younger generation isn't engaged with what's happening in the world, don't tell that to Isa Sanchez.

Sanchez is also involved in theater at Westerville South and is part of the school's drug intervention program called Youth to Youth.
