WESTERVILLE, Ohio — A minibike driver was critically injured when they struck a turning vehicle near Westerville Monday night, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened at 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 3 and Paris Boulevard in the Huber Ridge area at 9:45 p.m.
The sheriff’s office said a 2012 Toyota Scion was turning east onto Paris Boulevard when a black minibike heading north on state Route 3 struck it.
The minibike was not legal to ride in the street and had no lights, detectives said. Several witnesses told investigators that the person on the minibike was driving recklessly.
The driver of the Scion did not see the minibike and thought a deer ran into his car. The driver drove down the street to check the damage to his vehicle when a witness told him about the minibike. The driver of the Scion returned to the scene.
The rider of the minibike was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.
