OSHP: West Portsmouth man dies after Knox County crash

KNOX COUNTY, Ohio — A West Portsmouth man is dead after a crash in Knox County on Wednesday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

OSHP said the crash happened around 6 a.m. on state Route 104 south of the intersection of Big Bear Creek Road in Morgan Township.

A driver in a 2015 Peterbilt was driving south on state Route 104 and David Bender Jr., 25, was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse north.

Bender drove left of center, striking the Peterbilt head-on. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Bender was transported by helicopter to Cabell Huntington Hospital with serious injuries. On Thursday, he died of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
