COLUMBUS, Ohio — Five people were hospitalized, including an infant, after a multiple-vehicle crash in Franklinton Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash happened at the intersection of West Broad Street and North Davis Avenue just after 4 p.m.
Dispatchers initially told 10TV that one of the vehicles was stolen and fleeing from police when it crashed. Columbus Division of Police Sgt. Joseph Albert later clarified that the vehicle was not stolen.
Shortly after the crash, one person was taken into custody, though it’s unclear why.
According to a release from police, the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox ran a red light at West Broad Street and North Davis Avenue. At the same time, a BMW was traveling north on South Davis Avenue, attempting to turn left onto West Broad Street. The Chevrolet hit the BMW and then also hit a Ford Eco-Sport that was stopped at the red light.
The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and their condition was described as stable. The passenger of the Chevrolet was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Both occupants of the BMW were taken to Grant Medical Center. The driver was listed in critical condition and the passenger is described as stable. The driver of the Ford was not injured.
A baby was in one of the vehicles during the crash. Albert said the infant was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
