Walmart to close South High Street location on Feb. 16

Walmart said the decision was made after the company found the location did not meet its financial expectations.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Walmart announced that it is closing a location in south Columbus in two weeks.

The location at 3579 South High St. will shut its doors on Feb. 16. Walmart said the decision was made after the company found the location did not meet its financial expectations.

The pharmacy will close on March 4. Staff members will work with customers to transfer prescriptions to another convenient location.

“We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our store on High Street in Columbus. We look forward to continuing to serve them at any of our many locations across the area, on walmart.com and through delivery to their home or business,” said Brian Little, global communications director for Walmart.

Associates who worked at the South High Street location are eligible to transfer to another store and will be paid through May 3. Walmart said after the day, if the associates do not transfer, eligible associates will receive severance.

Walmart said as of now, it does not plan to close any additional stores in the region. There are 170 Walmart and Sam’s Club stores in Ohio.
