COLUMBUS, Ohio — As the winter season starts to kick off, so begins the mad dash for parents to prepare to register their children for summer camp.
It may sound strange, but the demand for summer camps is huge. Plus, with only so many slots for so many children, parents want to avoid putting their children on a waitlist.
Starting next week, Franklin Park Conservatory begins registering 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds for half-day summer camp starting at 11 a.m. on Jan. 9.
Sunbury Urban Farm starts registration this week and Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks will begin registrations for Metro Parks Summer Camp in March for Franklin County residents.
The City of Columbus begins registration for its outdoor summer camps on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. for Columbus residents.
On Feb.27, all other summer camps begin registration.
Dominique Shank, community relations chief for the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks, said early registration helps the city gauge which camps are the most in-demand, which helps with hiring staff like counselors or lifeguards.
