COLUMBUS, Ohio — It's National Reentry Week and Franklin County officials want to make sure those who have a second chance at normal life have the resources they need.
The Franklin County Office of Justice Policy and Programs is hosting an event on Tuesday to celebrate and support people who have been released from incarceration.
The All Hands On Deck Resource Fair is open to people who are coming back from jail or prison and will allow them to see what resources are available to them.
One of the goals of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners is to keep communities in the area safe. The commissioners said the key to doing this is to help connect people to housing, access to health care, jobs, identification and resources to pay fines.
It also supports other family members, including kids who have parents in the criminal justice system.
Franklin County Commissioner Erica Crawley said the Board of Commissioners wants to provide services to help some citizens reenter society effectively and be self-sufficient.
"They have not been written off," Crawley said. "People care about them and want to link them with services and get back into the community and support them so they can thrive and not just survive."
The event on Tuesday is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Michael J. Dorrian Building located at 369 South High Street in meeting room A.
The IMPACT Community Action is hosting another resource fair on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 711 Southwood Avenue.
