MORROW COUNTY, Ohio — One week after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 71 in Morrow County left four people dead and another injured, a vigil was held Monday night for two of those victims. Cristal Galloso, 31, and her mother, 50-year-old Ivonne Olvera, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on March 31.
Family, loved ones, and friends gathered in front of the hair salon Cristal owned, Azul Violeta in Whitehall, to pray and lean on each other for support.
"I'm confused, I'm mad... they always take the good people in this world,” Mario Galloso, the brother and son of the victims, said.
The Galloso family immigrated to Ohio from Mexico City.
"We came here with dreams to have a better life,” Julio Galloso, the father and husband of the victims, said.
Julio said his wife and his daughter were loved by all who knew them.
"My mom, she was so caring, loving, such a sweetheart, a lot of people adored both my sister and mom,” Mario said.
Mario said Cristal created her business from the ground up, inspiring countless others to do the same.
"A lot of people would always go for her for advice, how do I open a shop, or how do I open a business, where do I go, who do I talk to,” Mario said.
Mario worked side by side with his sister as a barber at her shop. Now, he said he plans to take over ownership of it.
"I'm here to fulfill her legacy and keep on going,” Mario said.
"I know he can do this and I'm proud of him. I trust him 100%. He can do this,” Julio said.
Julio and Mario added they are grateful to everyone who has been supporting them and reaching out during this difficult time.
"It means so much, from the bottom of my heart, and my family,” Mario said.
