Police: Stolen vehicle crashes into Reynoldsburg apartment building, causes fire

Police said the vehicle was unoccupied when they arrived on the scene.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A stolen vehicle crashed into a building at an apartment complex in Reynoldsburg causing a fire that burned for several hours.

The incident happened Sunday around 2 a.m. at the Ardsley Ridge Townshomes & Apartments in the 800 block of Whistlewood Drive.

Sergeant Joe Vincent with the Reynoldsburg Division of Police said the vehicle struck several gas meters, starting the fire.

The Truro Township Fire Department said battling the fire was difficult because the gas meters were unable to be shut off.

The gas company had to call in an excavator and dig several feet down to find the shut-off to allow crews to extinguish the fire, according to the fire department.

No injuries were reported by anyone in the apartments.

Vincent confirmed the vehicle was stolen but it was unoccupied when police arrived on the scene. They currently have no suspect information.
