COLUMBUS, Ohio — Central Ohio is heating up, and air conditioning units will be working overtime this week.
“There’s no gradual warmer days. It's straight to 90 this week so it's quite the jump,” said Sean Campbell, a Franklin County resident.
Campbell said he’s already adding things to his home to make it cooler.
“We actually had to get a second air conditioner, like a stand-alone portable unit, because our AC was not working as well and it was just too much. Very uncomfortable,” he said.
HVAC experts said there are a few things you can do now to make sure your unit is running properly.
“Make sure you have a clean filter in place. The outdoor condensing unit - make sure the coils are clean and free of debris,” said Nathan Dodds, Columbus service supervisor for Logan A/C and Heat Service.
Dodds recommends preventative maintenance on your unit at least once a year.
“We come out and do a tune-up, check refrigerant levels, operations, motors, how the system is operating in general,” said Dodds.
At Atlas Butler heating cooling and plumbing, they said calls are already coming in for AC unit maintenance.
To save yourself from sticker shock on your next electric bill make sure to keep a consistent temperature, keep your curtains closed and your fans on.
“It does help to keep your system running consistently during the day just to keep humidity out of the home because that is harder to bring to a comfortable level once your home gets humid,” said Sara Oliphant, Atlas Butler heating cooling and plumbing.
