Man arrested, charged with murder in shooting at northeast Columbus apartment complex

The shooting happened at the Timber Trail Apartments, located in the 2400 block of Timber Trail Drive South near North Linden.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was arrested and charged in a deadly shooting at a northeast Columbus apartment complex Sunday morning.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, the shooting happened at the Timber Trail Apartments, located in the 2400 block of Timber Trail Drive South near North Linden.

First responders found a man, identified as 28-year-old Andrew Stephens, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Franklin County Municipal Court documents say Stephens was with a woman and traveled back to her apartment complex. Records say when the woman got out of Stephens' vehicle, 33-year-old Erik Wagner came out from behind a tree and fired shots toward the vehicle, striking Stephens.

Wagner admitted to being at the scene, claiming he and the woman were dating and that he was upset that she was cheating on him with Stephens, documents say. The woman told authorities Wagner had been stalking her for the past month.

Wagner has been charged with murder and his bond was set at $1.5 million on Monday.
