CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Dan Hunter suffers from stage 4 lung cancer and was told he only has months left to live.
He wanted to spend some of that time on his bike.
His son, Johnny Hunter, organized the event "Rumble Out Cancer with Dan Hunter" in Circleville Saturday evening to give his dad one “final” ride while he is still able to enjoy it.
A Facebook event for it says over 1,500 people attended, but it was much more than that.
"Pops has always (been) passionate about his Harleys and wind therapy. As the wonderful man who raised me, served and defended his country in Vietnam, I think this is the least I could do to make him smile." Johnny says.
Dan struggled to put the feeling into words while talking to 10TV after the event: “An appreciation like you wouldn’t believe.”
After the event, Johnny estimated that there may have been more than 10,000 bikers that attended the tribute.
“There were bikers from New York, West Virginia (…) it just blew up.”
Both Johnny and Dan were overwhelmed by the response.
The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office helped coordinate the event to make sure the event was smooth and in compliance with social distancing guidelines.
