COLUMBUS, Ohio — Five teenagers were arrested Saturday after the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office said they reportedly attempted to break into a vehicle and fired a round at the owner while leaving in a stolen car.
Deputies were called to the 140 block of North High Street in Canal Winchester for a reported shooting. When they arrived, they were told that a car full of suspects had attempted to break into a vehicle before the owner came outside.
The car, which was later determined to be stolen out of Columbus, began leaving and a single round was fired at the victim, according to the sheriff’s office.
The gunshot hit a parked vehicle in the area, and no one was injured.
The stolen car was discovered a short time later and a brief pursuit began. The sheriff’s office says the vehicle eventually stopped and five teens got out.
The teens were later caught and arrested.
According to the sheriff’s office, the teens were between the ages of 13 and 16 and were taken to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center. Charges range from improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, improperly discharging a firearm at a habitation, receiving stolen property and criminal damaging.
