Teen who reportedly brought gun to football game at Canal Winchester enters guilty plea

Police said three teens were charged with carrying a concealed weapon and conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One of the three teens accused of bringing a gun with a Glock switch on it to a high school football game entered a guilty plea Friday afternoon.

According to the prosecutor’s office, this teen is the first juvenile in Franklin County to be charged with having a Glock switch on a gun. Now, months later, nearly half a dozen juveniles have been charged with the specification.

Madison Township Police Department officers intervened in a physical altercation during a Canal Winchester-Groveport Madison high school football game last August, which led to the recovery of three modified firearms.

Police said three teens were charged with carrying a concealed weapon and conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone. A fourth teen was charged with menacing and disorderly conduct from the incident.

Madison Township Police Chief Gary York said all three guns that were recovered were Glock 9 mm with switches, which makes the handgun an automatic weapon.

None of the individuals charged are students at either school. There were also no reported injuries.

The extra charge for the Glock switch carries a mandatory sentence of one to five years at the Ohio Department of Youth Services.

The teen will be held in custody until his sentencing on Nov. 8.
