Suspect fires at Findlay police, escapes capture before being caught in northwest Ohio

Findlay police say Arthur Hall III stole a White Jeep Liberty before fleeing on Saturday evening. Hall was later taken into custody in Sylvania.

VAN BUREN, Ohio — A 41-year-old man was detained in Sylvania on Saturday evening after a multi-county police chase. Two others, who were involved in an earlier police chase with the suspect were detained in Hancock County earlier in the evening.

Findlay police says an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Western Ave. in Findlay just after 7 p.m. for traffic violations when it fled the scene.

A pursuit ended in a field near Township Rd. 218 in Van Buren when the driver and passenger fled the vehicle on foot.

At that time, the driver fired a shot at police with a handgun. Police say, no officers were injured and police did not return fire.

Police later detained the passenger who had fled along with another passenger.

Police say the driver, who they identified as Arthur RC Hall III, stole a white Jeep Liberty before escaping.

Hall was wanted on a parole violation according to Findlay police.

Toledo police say around 9:30 p.m., Perrysburg police spotted a white Jeep and began chasing it north.

The pursuit went through Toledo with officers pursuing Hall for almost half an hour, according to court documents. Police deployed stop sticks, which the Jeep hit, and the pursuit ended on Main Street and Ravine Drive in Sylvania when the suspect vehicle was rear-ended by an officer's vehicle.

The suspect was detained without incident according to police. Hall was transported to the property for evaluation and treatment after complaining of back and neck pain, police said in a report.

Hall was then booked into the Lucas County Jail on charges of failure to comply by eluding or fleeing police, and a charge of theft.

The officer who was involved in the collision did not seek medical treatment, and the police cruiser sustained only minor damage.

Toledo police originally called Hall a homicide suspect but that has not been confirmed.
