Suspect arrested, charged with murder following south Columbus shooting

Circumstances on what led to the shooting remain under investigation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder after a shooting in south Columbus on Tuesday night left a 36-year-old man dead.

The Columbus Division of Police said 34-year-old Michael Houston is charged in connection to the shooting death of Joshua Hunt near Merion Village.

Officers were called to the 1000 block of Parsons Avenue near East Whittier Street at 10: 45 p.m. on a report of a shooting. Police found Hunt who was shot at least once. 

Hunt was pronounced dead at the scene by medics at 10:51 p.m. 

Houston is currently being held in the Franklin County jail.

Circumstances on what led to the shooting remain under investigation.

Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein said his office has met with local businesses, COTA and neighborhood groups since March to work on safety plans for the area where the shooting took place.

“We are very well aware and concerned. When you look at the stats and especially the significant level of violence that has happened there and the disturbances there, feeling for the neighboring businesses and the families that live along that area,” Klein said.
