COLUMBUS, Ohio — Surveillance video shows the aftermath of a fatal crash in the Milo-Grogan neighborhood on Wednesday.
The crash happened at East 5th and Peters avenues near St. Clair Avenue around 1 a.m.
Columbus police say 55-year-old Malvin Love was crossing East 5th Avenue heading southbound while a 2012 Toyota Camry was heading west approaching Peters Avenue. Love was struck by the front of the Camry and knocked down.
Video from a nearby business shows the Camry traveling into a grassy area in front of the business on East 5th Avenue and coming to a stop.
Witnesses say the driver of the Camry jumped out of the vehicle while it was moving and headed down Lexington Avenue on foot. No one ever got out of the car while it was in view of the surveillance camera.
A few minutes later, someone driving a red SUV pulls into the parking lot of the business and checks out the car.
“The car just ran up on the curve with the hood broken off. I don’t know what it hit,” said a 911 caller. “This car hit something further up the street, where police ran down this way, then on the curve."
Sgt. Joe Albert the vehicle was reported stolen from Obetz on Sept. 10 and believed the people inside it left the area of the crash before police arrived.
There is a Columbus Division of Police camera in the area where the crash happened. 10TV requested the video and any other information but we have not heard back.
