GAHANNA, Ohio — A student was arrested after they allegedly brought a look-alike firearm to Gahanna Lincoln High School, according to school leaders.
In a letter to families and staff on Sunday, leaders at Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools said that administrators and the Gahanna Division of Police were notified that a firearm was brought to the high school sometime last week.
After further investigation, police and administrators determined that a student owned an item that looked like a firearm.
The school district said that the student was arrested and that they could face expulsion and a criminal charge for the alleged incident. School leaders added that the incident was isolated and there is no ongoing threat.
“We are proud of those who came forward to report this. It is important for all in our school community to say something if they see something concerning,” the district said in the letter.
School is set to resume on Monday. You can read the full letter to families and staff members below.
Dear GLHS Families and Staff,
Over the weekend, it was reported to the Gahanna Division of Police, as well as school and District administrators that a firearm was brought to Gahanna Lincoln High School last week. Upon investigation by our local law enforcement partners, it was determined that a student possessed a look-a-like firearm in school.
The Gahanna Division of Police acted quickly to bring a resolution and an arrest was made. This is an isolated incident and at this time there is no ongoing threat.
While this incident did not include a real firearm, that does not mean this situation will be handled any less severely. Bringing a firearm or a look-a-like firearm to school could result in expulsion and a criminal charge. We are asking you to please ensure your students are aware of these possible consequences.
We are proud of those who came forward to report this. It is important for all in our school community to say something if they see something concerning.
Please be assured that student safety and security is our top priority and we continue to work every day to make sure GLHS is a safe and welcoming environment for our students and staff.
Thank you,
Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools
