OSHP: Trooper injured by impaired driver on Ohio Turnpike

The driver of the truck was found to be impaired and was charged with operating a vehicle impaired and aggravated vehicular assault, according to OSHP.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper was injured after being hit by an impaired driver on the Ohio Turnpike Monday night, authorities say.

The crash happened just west of the state Route 53 interchange in Sandusky County around midnight.

OSHP says the driver of a Ford F-150, 33-year-old Curtis Rogers Jr., was headed westbound when he drove off the left side of the road. Rogers reportedly hit a marked Dodge Charger that was parked in the crossover.

The trooper in the Charger sustained minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center. Rogers was not injured in the crash.

Rogers was found to be impaired and was charged with operating a vehicle impaired and aggravated vehicular assault, according to OSHP. He was taken to the Sandusky County Jail.

The crash remains under investigation.
