Police: Man dies from injuries in southeast Columbus fight; coroner rules death a homicide

The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and decide whether charges will be filed.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was killed when a fight broke out at a home on the city’s southeast side, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Police dispatchers received multiple calls around 9:55 p.m. Friday regarding a fight happening in the 5400 block of Refugee Road near the intersection of Barrows Road and Quinby Drive in the Walnut Heights neighborhood. Callers told dispatchers that one of the people involved was not breathing.

Officers found 34-year-old Anthony Reltan when they arrived at the scene. At the time, police said he was punched in the head during the fight.

Reltan was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 10:52 p.m.

On Monday, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office examined Reltan’s injuries during an autopsy and ruled his death as a homicide. Specifics on what injuries he suffered were not provided.

The case is being investigated by the Columbus Police Homicide Unit. The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and decide whether charges will be filed.
