FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — South-Western City School District Superintendent Bill Wise is retiring from his position after 17 years on the job.
During Monday's SWCSD Board of Education meeting, Wise informed the board of his intent to retire before his contract expires, which is set for Aug. 31, 2025.
Wise has been at the helm of SWCSD since October 2007. He was first hired by the district in 2002 where he served as both the deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent of curriculum.
“It has been my privilege to serve as a caretaker of the district for the better part of two decades and I have been blessed to work with many talented staff, board, and community members,” Wise said. “In addition, I have also benefited from the incredible work of others that came before me. My hope is that in some small way I will leave the district better than when I arrived. South-Western City Schools is the biggest, small place you can find. We have a history of building partnerships that propel us forward, which I am confident will continue."
Starting on Aug. 1, 2024, Wise will move to the role of special assistant to the superintendent.
SWCSD Board President Chris Boso said Wise's experience will help the district as they transition to new leadership.
“With such experience in the role, he is uniquely positioned to help the board and a new Superintendent bring about positive change on behalf of our community, while avoiding unintended missteps," Boso said.
The district says it will formally post the superintendent opening, conduct interviews and find its next leader.
South-Western is the fifth largest district in the state, home to about 21,000 students and 2,700 staff members. The district serves Columbus, Grove City, Franklin Township and other communities in the southwestern portion of central Ohio.
