2 injured in shooting on I-70 in east Columbus; westbound lanes closed due to crash

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus police say a shooting led to a crash on Interstate 70 in east Columbus Sunday afternoon. All westbound lanes are closed beyond state Route 317 and Hamilton Road.

The crash was reported as an "injury accident" to the Columbus Division of Police around 12:15 p.m. According to dispatchers, one person was seriously injured in the shooting on the freeway and drove to the 1500 block of Elaine Road where police found them.

Another person was found shot and injured on I-70. Both injured people were taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

The westbound lanes are closed to Interstate 270 while the incident is being investigated. It’s unclear at this time when they will reopen.

Drivers can take I-270 to U.S. Route 40 westbound to Alum Creek Drive southbound to I-70 westbound as a detour.
