COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police identified a man fatally shot on the city’s north side Monday night as 20-year-old Anthony Wise.
Just before 8:30 p.m., officers were called to the 1200 block of North 4th Street, near Weinland Park Elementary School, on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Wise suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medics transported Wise to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he later died.
Investigators say Wise and a group of friends were gathered in the Weinland Park shelter house when a male in the group pulled out a gun and began to fire when Wise was struck.
Police said after the shooting, witnesses and the suspect fled into the surrounding neighborhood. Police describe the suspect as a 20-year-old male wearing a toboggan, grey hooded jacket and jeans, and believe the shooting was out of an ongoing dispute between Wise and a group of people.
