COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police has identified the victim killed in a shooting in the University District Saturday afternoon as a 51-year-old man.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of North High Street just before 2:40 p.m. on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as Paul Allgood, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics transported Allgood to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:24 p.m.

Police did not provide additional information about a suspect or what led up to the shooting.

Police were investigating the homicide around the same time the Ohio State football game ended on campus.

Large groups of Ohio State fans approached the crime scene on their way out of the game, causing concern, especially from those visiting Columbus.

“It is crazy, crazy to be at the OSU game, to see a shooting right on High Street, scary... we live in scary times,” said Ohio State alumni Khalilah and Kenneth Larue, visiting from Atlanta.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Columbus Police's Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
