Sheriff’s office identifies Watkins Memorial H. S. student killed in crash

LICKING COUNTY, Ohio -- A high school student who died in a car crash Saturday morning in Licking County has been identified.

The single-vehicle crash happened Saturday morning at about 7 a.m. in the 2100 block of York Road near Morse Road in Licking County, according to the Licking County Sheriff's Office.

The student has been identified as 16-year-old Mason Boyd, according to the Licking County Sheriff's Office.

Boyd was a sophomore at Watkins Memorial High School and a member of the wrestling team, according to the Southwest Licking School District.

The sheriff’s office said Boyd was driving to a wrestling tournament when the vehicle struck a tree.

The district said grief counselors will be available on Monday.

The crash remains under investigation.
