Sheriff: 1 dead in southwest Franklin County crash

Deputies say the crash happened just after 10 p.m. Friday on I-270 eastbound.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — One person is dead after a crash in southwestern Franklin County, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened just after 10 p.m. Friday on I-270 eastbound, west of I-71 in Jackson Township.

According to the sheriff's office, a 2021 GMC Yukon was traveling east on 270 at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a red 2016 Kenworth tractor trailer was trying to pull off the freeway due to engine troubles.

The Yukon hit the back of the trailer being towed by the Kenworth. The Yukon spun after impact and hit a 2013 Freightliner, which came to rest in a ditch off the south side of the roadway.

Two Honda Civics swerved off the road to avoid the crash.

First responders pronounced the driver of the Yukon dead on scene just after 11 p.m. No other drivers involved were injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
