COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Hilliard woman was sentenced Thursday to at least 12 years in prison for her role in a 2021 crash that left one woman dead and two others injured, according to Franklin County Prosecutor Gary Tyack.

Shannon Gaines, 50, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of aggravated vehicular assault. Judge Sheryl Munson sentenced her to 12 to 15 years in prison.

Gaines was also given a lifetime driver's license suspension.

On Dec. 2, 2021, Gaines drove left of center while on Roberts Road between Walcutt Road and International Street and hit an oncoming vehicle, Tyack's office said. One of the victims in the car, Carla Mavis, died as a result of the crash. Two other women were treated for injuries.

Investigators determined Gaines had a .156 blood alcohol level at the time of the crash.
