School officially lets out for the summer, Thursday, which means thousands of kids will need something to do.

The city of Columbus is here to help keep your children stay active, engaged and safe.

Tuesday, the city rolled out its "Schools Out" program. It's a partnership with different businesses around Franklin County, including Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus, COSI and Columbus City Schools, among others.

The city has also partnered with COTA to offer discounted rides and entry fees to the Columbus Zoo and Zoombezi Bay.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther says he knows during the summer violence amongst youth tends to go up, but he hopes programs like this will help young people stay on the right path.

"That's what you've seen coming together with this coalition of folks," he said. "Making sure our young people have multiple, multiple options. Work, recreation, meaningful engagement with youth leaders in our community to make sure they're safe during the summer."

This summer, the city and Franklin County will employ almost 2,500 students who will work with private sector, government and non-profit organizations. More information about "Schools Out" can be found here.
