ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County Sheriff's deputy and a man exchanged gunfire at a home near Chillicothe on Thursday.
According to Ross County Major Michael Preston, deputies were called to the 200 block of Atlantis Road off U.S. 35 for a report of a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest.
Preston said when deputies arrived, the man was armed with a gun. Deputies told the man to drop the gun and a Taser was deployed.
The man fired a shot toward the deputies and one of the deputies returned fire, but neither was struck, according to Preston.
The man was flown to Grant Medical Center to treat his reported self-inflicted gunshot wound. His condition was described as stable. No deputies were injured in the incident.
Preston said the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation's is handling the investigation.
