Retired Hilliard police chief passes away after battle with cancer

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Retired Hilliard Chief of Police Robert Fisher passed away Friday after a battle with cancer, according to the Hilliard Division of Police.

“We are deeply saddened to share that retired Hilliard Chief of Police Robert Fisher died on Friday, March 3, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Please join us as we offer our condolences to his family. Details of the funeral arrangements will be forthcoming," Hilliard police wrote in a statement.

Prior to his retirement in 2021, Fisher worked in public safety for 30 years.

He started serving with Hilliard police in 2012 as the deputy chief of police. He was promoted to chief of police in 2015.

Before coming to Hilliard, he worked in Sharonville as a patrol officer, DARE officer, administrative sergeant, lieutenant and deputy safety service director.

According to the city of Hilliard, Fisher also served as a petty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard from 2001 to 2009, including serving with the U.S. Navy during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
