WHITEHALL, Ohio — A registered sex offender accused of taking upskirt videos of women and young girls at local stores and parks is facing an additional charge.
The Whitehall Division of Police said a young girl called security at Walmart on Oct. 20 after she said a man followed her closely through the toy aisle and she didn't feel comfortable.
Police said officers stopped Daniel Shope, who denied doing anything wrong. He was arrested and charged with pandering obscenity involving a minor.
When Whitehall police got a search warrant for his phone, they found at least 15 videos of girls and women at Walmart.
They also found several other videos from a convenience store and a park where Shope is shooting videos up women's dresses while inappropriately touching himself, according to police.
He was initially charged with pandering obscenity to minors. He is now also charged with one count of voyeurism.
According to Whitehall police reports, Shope is a Tier III sex offender. He was found guilty of third-degree sexual battery in Licking County in 2014. He was also arrested on the Olentangy bike path for public indecency and engaging in a sex act in Franklin County in 2021.
Shope remains in the Franklin County jail. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 22.
