ODOT holding public meetings for potential US Route 23 expansion in Delaware County

Last fall, ODOT hosted similar expansion meetings where residents expressed their concerns about the growing traffic on the north side.

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio — The next steps in expanding U.S. Route 23 in Delaware County are moving forward.  The Ohio Department of Transportation is set to hold eight public meetings starting next week.

Last fall, ODOT hosted similar expansion meetings where residents expressed their concerns about the growing traffic on the north side.

"We will take the feedback that is received at these public meetings, and use that to inform our feasibility study that will ultimately identify different projects that could be advanced into development," said Hannah Salem with the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The proposed expansion would stretch between Interstate 270 and the Village of Waldo. Officials with ODOT say that the stretch of U.S. Route 23 is already 30% over its daily road capacity.

"Our goal with this study and the projects that will result from it is really to improve safety and increase that travel time along the corridor," said Salem.

The first meeting is on Tuesday, Aug. 6 and the last one is on Aug. 15, and two of the eight meetings have a virtual option.
