Prosecutor: Wife Of Lancaster Mayor-Elect Embezzled Funds To Hide Gambling Addiction

Bridget Kuhn, 47, is accused of embezzling more than $350,000 from at least three victims, including the American Legion.

The wife of Lancaster Mayor-Elect Brian Kuhn has been charged with 50 counts in relation to an embezzlement scheme to support her gambling addiction.

Bridget Kuhn, 47, is accused of embezzling more than $400,000 from at least three victims, including the American Legion.

A Special Prosecutor announced the findings Wednesday morning.

In October, Fairfield County Prosecutor Gregg Marx requested a Special Prosecutor be appointed to handle the investigation.   In mid-December, at Marx’s request, a judge unsealed that request, allowing it to be made public.

According to the Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office, Bridget Kuhn embezzled more than $300,000 from Frazier Electric since 2013, where she worked as a bookkeeper.  While employed, Kuhn allegedly paid fraudulent invoices through electronic transfers to vendors.  She would then change routing information on the transfers to her personal account.

Once the IRS and other vendors became aware of the fraud, Kuhn was fired in September 2015.

The 47-year-old is also accused of stealing more than $50,000 from the American Legion Post 11 in Lancaster, where she also worked as a bookkeeper.

The Cameo League has been named a third victim in the scheme.  Kuhn served as its treasurer in 2012.

The Cameo League supports the annual Lancaster Festival to bring cultural events to the city.

Bridget Kuhn is married to Brian Kuhn, who was elected Mayor of Lancaster in November.  Kuhn is currently the Lancaster Safety Services Director.   He takes over as Mayor January 1.

Kuhn could face life in prison, if convicted on all charges.

Special Prosecutor Bill Archer said the investigation continues, including whether or not the Mayor-Elect had any knowledge or involvement.

Archer says if any business had Kuhn handling its money, to contact him at the Fairfield County Prosecutor's Office at 740-652-7560 if they suspect money might have been taken.
