Police searching for suspect in Grandview bank robbery, bomb threat

Police said he handed the teller a note that said if they gave him any problems he would detonate an explosive.

Grandview Police are searching for a bank robbery suspect who entered a bank and demanded cash.

The incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. at the PNC Bank at Broadview Avenue and 1st Avenue.

Police said he handed the teller a note that said if they gave him any problems he would detonate an explosive.

When police arrived they found a backpack near the front door and called Columbus Division of Fire bomb squad technicians to examine the backpack.

A bomb disposal robot was used to get close enough to the backpack to make sure it didn't contain any wires or explosives.

The crime forced Grandview police to evacuate homes and put the Grandview schools on lockdown.

Instead of finding anything explosive, police found a white towel and what looked like an ice bucket inside the backpack.

A portion of First Avenue and Grandview Avenue was shut down for about three hours until police determined there was no threat.

Meanwhile, the suspect remains at large. He is described as white male, in his 50's, 6'3 and 180 pounds wearing dark sunglasses.
