Police: Fatal shooting of Columbus 12-year-old being investigated as a homicide

Police said the case will be classified and investigated as a homicide after further investigation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Division of Police said they are now investigating the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy as a homicide.

Officers were called to the 500 block of South Warren Avenue just before 7 p.m. on Monday.

When they arrived, officers found 12-year-old Demitri Gore suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to police, their initial investigation and witness accounts suggested Gore killed by the unsafe handling of a loaded firearm.

Police said the case will be classified and investigated as a homicide after further investigation.

Police are still investigating how the shooting occurred, who was involved and how the firearm was obtained.
