Columbus police release bodycam of shooting near Weinland Park that left 3 dead, 3 injured

Police identified the victims as 27-year-old Malachi Pee, 18-year-old Da’ondre Bullock and 26-year-old Garcia Dixon Jr.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police released the body camera video from the shooting near Weinland Park early Saturday morning that left three people dead and three others injured.

The video shows the moments when police arrived when dozens of people were at the scene. People can be seen trying to help the victims while others are running away.

Officers had been called to the area around 2:45 a.m. and found what Columbus Police Deputy Chief Gregory Bodker described as a "very chaotic scene."

The video is heavily blurred to cover the faces and injuries of the victims, but blood is seen throughout the video clips. Bystanders directed arriving officers to the victims who were outside a bar at the corner of Summit Street and East 5th Avenue. Other victims were across the street and down the block.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene while a third victim was pronounced dead at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center just before 3:30 a.m.

Police identified the victims as 27-year-old Malachi Pee, 18-year-old Da’ondre Bullock and 26-year-old Garcia Dixon Jr. The three individuals who were injured are now said to be in stable condition.

A neighbor on Wednesday didn’t feel safe talking on camera but described what he saw that night.

“I seen a lot of people running, running over here trying to get out of the line of fire,” he said. “They kicked out the back little door behind the Hookah bar to avoid the gunfire and I just seen a whole bunch of muzzle flashes.”

He said the bar at the corner wasn’t always like this and that it has changed in recent years.

“Since it's been under new ownership, a lot of stuff has happened. Fights break out, mostly people burning out with their cars and stuff like that,” he said.

10TV reached out to the building’s owner according to county property records, but the call was not returned.
