COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police have arrested a man they say shot and killed a man and injured another in an apparent home invasion in west Columbus last year.
Police said 23-year-old Harry Lathon, Jr. broke into a home in the 100 block of North Harris Avenue around 2 a.m. on December 13.
When officers arrived on scene, they found two men inside a home suffering from gunshot wounds.
Jason Collins, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene when medics arrived.
Joseph Collins Jr., 35, was transported to Mount Carmel West Hospital in serious condition.
Police say the investigation indicates that the suspect forcibly entered the residence before shooting the victims.
Lathon is charged with aggravated murder.
Jason Collins’ death is the city’s 131st homicide in 2017.
