Woman arrested, charged with murder in northeast Columbus shooting

According to the Columbus Division of Police, 34-year-old Brittney McBride is charged in connection to the death of 36-year-old Dajuan Rios.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman has been arrested and charged with murder more than three weeks after a shooting left a man dead in northeast Columbus.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, 34-year-old Brittney McBride is charged in connection to the death of 36-year-old Dajuan Rios.

The shooting took place in the 800 block of Murray Avenue, near East 5th Avenue, on Aug. 3. Officers arriving on the scene found Rios suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

According to Franklin County Court records, investigators learned Rios had a violent domestic relationship with McBride.

Records say McBride had a felonious warrant out for her arrest when she stabbed Rios previously.

As investigators worked on the case, they spoke with one of Rios' relatives. The relative gave McBride's phone number to detectives, records say.

While investigators reviewed 911 calls, records state they discovered a female called 911 from the phone number provided by the Rios relative.

The 911 caller said she was a passerby and saw someone near a driveway fall after a gunshot and believed a shooting occurred. The caller went on to say she saw someone standing in a doorway when the shot was fired and she was no longer on the scene, according to the report.

While investigators were interviewing neighbors, one resident said she heard a man and woman arguing before the shooting.

McBride was arrested on Monday. She is being held on an $800,000 bond.
