Police: Woman, two 19-year-olds killed in wrong-way crash in east Columbus

The driver of the Dodge, identified by police as 19-year-old Samuel Beyene, was taken to Grant Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police say a woman and two 19-year-olds are dead following a wrong-way crash in east Columbus early Monday morning.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on East Livingston Avenue, just west of South Hamilton Road.

According to a release from the Columbus Division of Police, the driver of a Dodge Charger was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of East Livingston Avenue when he collided head-on with a woman driving a Nissan Altima. Police said the headlights of the Dodge were not turned on at the time of the crash.

Police identified the woman driving the Nissan as 32-year-old Deandra Brigham. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

The driver of the Dodge, identified by police as 19-year-old Samuel Beyene, was taken to Grant Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The passenger of the Dodge, 19-year-old Joel Beyene, was also taken to Grant Medical Center where he died a day later, police say.

A third person inside the vehicle was taken to Mount Carmel East in what police described as serious condition.

Neighbors near the crash site say they've seen many accidents along this road.

“This corner right here this is the most dangerous corner I have ever seen, I see so many people get hit all the time right here, it’s just a mess right here,” said Melvin Tucker.

According to the City of Columbus Department of Public Safety, 24 car crashes have been reported in the last year around East Livingston Avenue and South Hamilton Road.

The crash remains under investigation.
